The artist, Andre' Joseph Grill, American (1916-1985), had a painting career of almost 40 years during which time his style grew and evolved and he produced splendid works including landscapes, portraits, figures, nudes and still lifes. In addition he painted numerous scenes of nightlife. His works have been exhibited in Paris, New York, Chicago, Australia and are in collections in Europe, North and South America. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and at Academie Julian in Paris, painted and sketched widely in Europe and North America. A number of his paintings document Saturday nights the artist spent at the Loft parties. |

This painting, by Penelope (Penny) Grill, done about 1975, hung at the Loft in New York City, while the party was on Prince Street and later while it was at East 3rd Street. It is an oil on linen canvas and measures 46" x 46".

In the late 1970s the artist spent Saturday nights at the Prince Street Loft parties while visiting New York. Afterward he painted several works depicting scenes from his Loft nights.
